Wizard of Oz
I've been at my computer for the past few hundred hours scraping my thoughts together and trying to write my essays for the end of term, which is in 3 days. It has not been easy. I went into it confident that I would revolutionize the academic world with my highly original and ground breaking papers. The dean would call me out of class to confer and honorary Doctorate degree. I would have to hire a publicist to handle all of the ivy league universities that wanted me guest lecture at their schools...
At this point, I would be happy to have my paper returned to me without being expelled for gross incompetence or unintended plagiarism. A B please!
Anyway, one of the papers I was working on today was kinda interesting. I had this theory about the Wizard of Oz. Not the movie, that doesn't work because the whole thing is a dream, but the novel by L. Frank Baum. My idea is that the whole quest for Dorothy to get back home is a total wash, I mean completely redundant. She begins the quest with everything she needs to fulfill it. The journey to Oz, and then out to the Winkie country to kill the Wicked witch of the West is a total waste of time. No one learns anything from it.
In fact, Dorothy herself..that little whiney midwestern hussy, doesn't really do anything to help the quest. She assembles her team; the Lion, Tin Woodsman, and the Scarecrow, and then lets them do all the work for her. Well, she does kill that other witch, but just like the first one it was a total fluke. And the wizard, that lying sack of filth who is from Omaha of all places, doesn't even cough up the payback. "You have it all along" he says to the party. Well, why did they even bother in the first place?
